Emma Johnson is an artist whose work through painting and sculpture explores finding the visual balance between comfort and discomfort, nostalgia and the unknown. Fascinated by perception and how individuals’ experiences shape different understandings, Emma’s work strives to emotionally put the viewer in an unfamiliar position, and momentarily turn off the autopilot in someone’s life. Through form, color, and substrate she explores topics of femininity, dissociation, and an introspective journey on reshaping her own identity. Born in Fayetteville Arkansas, and earning a BFA in Studio Painting and Sculpture, she works to merge the two disciplines to highlight the realities in life and the gratitude that can be found in it all.
